Remembering Katrina – after 5 years

“We will take all weapons.” — Eddie Compass, former police chief of New Orleans during Katrina.

And they did – from law abiding citizens protecting their property.

On the 5 year anniversary of Katrina, let’s remember that not only were lives lost and lives changed, but one of the core individual rights we have as citizens – were illegally stripped from us.

The “Great New Orleans Gun Grab” prompted the Vitter Amendment to the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2006, expressly prohibiting the seizure of lawful weapons during a crisis.
